The Lynchcliffe Cuckoo series guide

THE MAIN TRILOGY

The Lynchcliffe Cuckoo Vol 1 : Mis en Scene

This is where the story begins. We come to share the secret concerning the heroine, Margaret’s, origins and follow the development of her passionate love affair with Lewis Franklin; the Lynchcliffe family chauffeur.  Along the way we discover secrets, witness spiteful attempts to destroy Franklin’s reputation, and unearth a murderer.

The Lynchcliffe Cuckoo Vol 2: The Enemy Within.

This sequel takes us into the dark days of the First World War. Margaret & Franklin’s marriage is central to the plot but, through the other characters, we also discover the pain of marital infidelity, the thorny issue of new love after widowhood, twilight years’ romance and the fear of loss. We also delve into the psychological and physical effects of war as Michael Lynchcliffe gets shell shocked.  A shock death, three weddings (one a double event), an inquest and a trans-Atlantic correspondence take us through to Armistice Day.

The Lynchcliffe Cuckoo Vol 3: Making Peace with the Past

This is a work in progress. It seeks to resolve character issues and tie up loose ends in order to bring the trilogy to a satisfactory end. Will Margaret’s father, Thomas Frazer, finally be able to lay his late wife’s memory to rest in order to find new love? Will Lady Helena Lynchcliffe finally find peace regarding her feud with her late sister, Lady Celia Trevelyan> Will Lord Michael Lynchcliffe finally be able to find peace following his war-time experience? Will Sarah Lynchcliffe’s new husband, Charles Byfleet, be able to resolve the volatile situation he left behind in New York concerning his mother and daughter? Will Lewis Franklin finally be able to tell Margaret about his past? This book touches partly, although not exclusively, on events in the Lynchcliffe Prequels trilogy. I have the trilogy ending planned; I just need to find my way there.

THE LYNCHCLIFFE PREQUELS TRILOGY

Eye of the Storm: Lewis Franklin’s Story

This is the life story of our series hero. It takes us from his sister’s funeral in 1874 through to the moment he meets Margaret and discovers that she is his elusive all-consuming passion. This novel takes us through Franklin’s romances, friendships and life experiences. The book deals with adult issues such as illegitimacy, death, (including suicide), loss and domestic violence. Some issues are raised in Vol 3 of the Main Lynchcliffe Cuckoo trilogy but it is not necessary to have read this first.

Divided Loyalties: Lady Lynchcliffe’s Story

This is the story of Helena Lynchcliffe and her sister, Celia. It deals with rape, sibling rivalry, ectopic pregnancy and the enduring love between husbands and wives, fathers and daughters, fathers and sons as well as between sisters. It explains why the sisters fell out which is how Helena never knew that Celia and her husband had adopted Margaret following her mother’s death.

Prescription for Romance: Hamish George’s Story

I have not even started this one yet. It will tell the story of young Hamish at a crossroads in his life at the age of seventeen as to whether or not he should follow his father into medicine. A tragic loss makes the decision for him and we follow his development ; explore the relationships Hamish has with his father and his twin sister, Morag, who would very much like to be a doctor herself were women permitted to study medicine.  It will take us up to the early 1900s when Hamish comes to replace the recently deceased Dr James Pargeter and develops a friendship with |Lord Marcus Lynchcliffe and a deep seated passion for his wife, Lady Helena. This one is very much at the drawing board stage.
